Lifetime Sportsman's License
Georgia residents 65 and older can obtain a free Senior Lifetime Sportsman’s hunting and fishing license. This free lifetime license can be obtained online, by telephone, or from license agent locations - information on these three methods.
Other Lifetime Sportsman's Licenses are not available for purchase online or at retail agents because of strict residency and age documentation requirements (see below). To obtain a Lifetime Sportsman's License, you will download a Lifetime Sportsman's License application and mail it and required documents to the address on the form. Or you may hand-deliver the completed application and required documents to a Wildlife Resources Division office. Credit card transactions may not be available at every WRD office if hand delivered - please call the local office to verify. Specific additional documents are required for each type of lifetime license. A list of these documents appears on the second page of the application and on the FAQ page.
Lifetime licenses are full privilege sportsman's licenses, and include all state paid recreational hunting and fishing privileges (see below for additional no cost state licenses that may be required). Lifetime licenses include hunting, big game, Wildlife Management Area (WMA), alligator, Georgia waterfowl conservation, salt and freshwater fishing and mountain trout licenses. Remaining licenses or permits that may be needed are the free annual state deer harvest record, the annual state HIP License for migratory birds, free annual state SIP License for salt water fishing, the free state deer dog hunting license, and/or the federal duck stamp, depending on what is being hunted. If you need any of these four, they must be renewed each year. A quota permit is needed in addition to the included alligator hunting license to harvest one alligator per quota permit - the lifetime license includes alligator hunting when assisting the quota permit holder, or covers hunting if the holder has obtained the alligator quota permit themselves. Trapping or other commercial licenses are not included. Persons may initial the front of the application if they want fishing privileges only.
The free Deer Harvest Record, free HIP License, free annual state SIP License for salt water fishing and free state deer dog hunting license are available anywhere Georgia licenses are sold, including through our online web site, by phone, or at a license agent. Directions for obtaining the Harvest Record and HIP License - choose license 297 Resident Deer-Dog Sportsman's / Honorary in the same manner if this free license is needed. The Federal Duck Stamp is available at Post Offices, from some Georgia license agents, and online at http://www.fws.gov/duckstamps/stamps.htm. There is a federally required fee for the Federal Duck Stamp.
Lifetime Sportsman’s Licenses are available only to residents of Georgia that meet the criteria in the next paragraph. Lifetime Licenses are also available to non-resident grandchildren, less than 16 years of age, of current RESIDENT Lifetime License holders (does not include free Senior Lifetime License holders).
For purposes of purchasing a lifetime license, "Resident" is defined as any U.S. citizen with a continuous domicile within Georgia for a minimum of 12 consecutive months immediately prior to procuring this license, and includes full-time active duty military personnel who list Georgia as their home of record in official military files and full-time active duty military personnel and their dependents who are stationed at a military based located in Georgia.
Domicile means a person's fixed, permanent, and principal home for legal purposes. A person may own land or dwellings and may stay for a time in several states, but may only have one domicile, and therefore may not be a resident of two states at the same time. Nonresident landowners owning land in Georgia are not residents and must obtain a nonresident license to hunt or fish.
Once legally obtained, Georgia lifetime licenses remain valid even if a person later becomes a resident of another state.
Thank you for considering purchasing a lifetime license.
